Draft immersive fantasy writing quest

Draft Dragon Adventure Writing Workshop:  students go on a quest to find a dragon

Rationale: Inquiry using interactive fiction text based role-playing game, students form team of heroes to get the dragon. Immersion is enhanced by teambuilding games, puzzles, apps and aurasma to promote creative writing outcomes in Yr 8 students. Add QR codes or Aurasma for riddles.  Use Epic Citadel or Castlerama for setting.

Time– 2 days

Draft Plan Students need paper and pen. Students are to map their journey. Need an internet enabled device for each team to play the game. Download game and play from blb files. Zip files are at:

Character Using Dragon Adventure IF game, teachers set the context.  Read introduction from

Put students in teams, bandannas/shirts.

Discussion in groups – why are they chosen for this adventure? Brainstorm reasons.

Do 5 mins writing focusing on character and teamwork.

Students script dialogue. How do they feel about being chosen? Then pick one student’s work to act script for group to dramatise. Do character scaffolds and sketches:

Introduce Dragon Adventure IF game: have to load files on device for each group. Good idea to do first part as whole group to show how to use commands, how to map, how to create decision diagram. Then students work as team of 4 to progress through the game for 15 mins.

Capture the flag

Students need to get their team to objective unseen. Other teams doing same thing. Take photos of “enemy.” Team who gets to objective first with least photos taken of them wins.
