“The danger of allowing an advertising company to control the index of human knowledge is too obvious to ignore”

Publishing PowerPoint Online with Scribd

I have been trying to find a way to put my presentation online with the transcript. Slideshare seems to pick up the slide contents not the notes,so have used scribd:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/40448221/SLAQIASL-Part-1
and
http://www.scribd.com/doc/40451155/SLAQIASL-Part-2

Only thing, the powerpoint function that converts the notes to a handout cut out at 25 slides for Part 1-don’t know why-Part 2 is 27 slides. Than it had to be converted to PDF as otherwise only part of the slide image appeared in Scribd. More mysteries of technology…

How to star in a soap opera.
There are probably many ways to break into soap operas, but one way, Sophie discovered, is just to stand there. As your parents lose their minds, their sense, and their money, you will be the star. The one around whom all the action pivots. This will be a show you cannot quit. You will be stuck on the set, surrounded by bad lines and bad actors. Every morning you will say, “No more episodes! End this!”
But in a soap opera, there is always another episode.
By the time Sophie Olivette realized she was a star in her own soap, the action had been going on for some time. She just hadn’t had the TV on. Or she’d been watching another channel.
It was as if Sophie’s father had walked in, grabbed the remote and turned up the volume. from TUNE IN ANYTIME, by Caroline Cooney (Random, 1999)

From Charlotte’s Web “Where’s Papa going with that ax?”
Lisa Scottoline’s – Daddy’s Girl with the first line, “Nat Greco felt like an A cup in a double-D bra.”

“We went to the moon to have fun, but the moon turned out to completely suck.” –Feed, by M.T. Anderson

“Froggy Welsh the 4th is trying to get up my shirt.” –The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things, by Carolyn Mackler.

The best I’ve read lately is from The Demon’s Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan: “The pipe under the sink was leaking again. It wouldn’t have been so bad, except that Nick kept his favorite sword under the sink.”

Or, there’s always Pride and Prejudice and Zombies:
“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains.”

“She scowled at her glass of orange juice” – The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader : “There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.”

True Confession of Charlotte Doyle: “Not every thirteen-year-old girl is accused of murder, brought to trial, and found guilty.”

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks: “I, Frankie Landau-Banks, hereby confess that I was the sole mastermind behind the mal-doings of the Loyal Order of the Basset Hounds.”

Graveyard Book: “There was a hand in the darkness and it held a knife.”

Book Thief : “First the colors.”

Going Bovine: “The best day of my life happened when I was five and almost died at Disney World.”

Stormbreaker: When the doorbell rings at 3 in the morning, it’s never good news.”
